Four new members of the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA)Committee were sworn in a ceremony presided over by HW Timothy Lumunye, on behalf of the Chief Registrar, HW Sarah Langa Siu.
The ceremony which took place at the Judiciary headquarters in Kampala saw Mr. Murari Moses, Ms. Felicia Kugonza, Maj Israel Ahimbisibwe and Mr. Naboth Tumuhairwe sworn in.
As members of the Committee, they are mandated to adjudicate matters arising or related to registration of persons under the Registration of Persons Act, 2015.Their decisions are by law appealable to the High Court.
HW Lumunye urged the Members to remain impartial at all times in the process of fulfilling their mandate; determining who is a citizen and who is not.
The Executive Director NIRA, Ms. Rosemary Kisembo, urged the team to make the process of registration of Ugandans easy for all by ensuring that no one is frustrated in the due process.
The Vice Chairperson for NIRA board of directors, Honorable Ruth Nvumetta Kavuma emphasized the need to serve with integrity in their day today duties in order to build citizens confidence.
The members were appointed by the NIRA Board at its 78th meeting in exercise of its powers under Section 83 of the Registration and Persons Act 2015 and Regulation5 of the Registration of Persons (Identification and Registration Committee) (Practice and Procedure)Notice, Legal Notice No. 13 of 2015.
